"Beyond"
I have been tapping into my spiritual third eye, or rather, everything around me has been tapping at it. It's strange because this happens whenever I'm in a transitional period in my life. Little things approach me and life has a way of transforming in front of me.
This all began one day when I was looking at tumblr. An image of a sadhu came up and I was curious. I had seen images of sadhu's before and always thought that it looked interesting, but never delved into further. For whatever reason, I decided to look it up. Who are these mesmerizing, yet, haunting men? Instead of reading about them on wikipedia or whatever, I stumbled upon a documentary called, "Beyond"It followed a photographer and his crew to Varanasi, India: a holy city in India. Varanasi are where the sadhu's reside, sadhus, in short, are holy men. They give up their life possessions to achieve liberation and reach the final stage of life. It was compelling to me because the documentary touched upon how present death is in Varanasi and how these men often meditate holding a human skull. The realm of life and death are intertwined. To some that might be daunting, however, to me, it was extremely profound and beautiful in a way. The way these people lived their lives and how death was not something that was looked at in fear was sensical to me. It ended up striking a cord of spiritual revival, as well as cultural revival. I studied Anthropology in school, however, the main appeal of me studying anthro in the first place was because of stuff like this, the spirituality of people. The holy people of a society and why they practice the way they do.
Something so small as stumbling across an image and remembering who I was a couple of years ago, when I thought I could do anything and was filled with passion was exactly something I needed. Being in limbo is scary. I am currently in limbo right now. However, this chance encounter of an image I was scrolling past brought up these feelings of remembrance. Remembering who you are while constantly sparking and keeping a passion alive is what we should live around, not the ideas of being successful in the monetary sense. I am in a period where I want to move forward, however, I need to keep discovering these things in order for my path to align.
